Petra, Jordan

Jordan is one of the beautiful countries in the Middle East, Full of wonderful places and tasty food. It’s hard to describe Jordan in one post because there are many things you need to know and visit so I decide to tell you about my trip to Petra.

As all of us know Petra is one of the world wonders, is an Arabian historical and archaeological city in the Jordanian governorate of Ma'an; that is famous for its rock-cut architecture and water conduit system.

I won’t forget the day when I visited Petra with my family and friends, it was awesome. I was living in Amman which is four hours from Petra by car. To go to Petra, you can go with Tour Company or even you can drive yourself to that area, but in Jordan there’s nothing called GPS!! so you will need either to have the area map or its better to go with tourism company . In your way you will see a great places and nice views.

When you reach Al-Petra, you need to walk 30 minutes until you reach the rock-cut fossil or you might ride a camel or horse to reach there. You will amaze by the wonderful view and how it’s still until our days sculpted on the rock with the pick-orange color fossil, in the same area you can find old Roman amphitheater.

When you visit Petra with Tour Company, usually they take you to the heart of desert in a place call Wadi Rum, which is near Petra. You will enjoy the nice view of sundown. Next, they usually arrange a traditional Jordanian dinner for all the tourism, with sound of Jordanian music.

Its was one of best trips for me that I will never forget. There are more historical and nice places in Jordan. Trust me, you will not regret it.

Polish Pierogi

Hello Everyone, Today I am going to provide you with Polish Pierogi recipe; one of the traditional polish recipes.

For potato and cheese filling you need 1 tablespoon grated onion, 2 tablespoons butter, 2 cups cold mashed potatoes, 1 cup cottage cheese, salt and pepper.

For Pierogi you will need: 2 and 1/2 cups flour, 1/2 teaspoon salt,1 egg, 2 teaspoons oil, 3/4 cup warm water.

First prepare the filling, start by cooking the onion in butter until it tender, and then add potatoes and cheese to it. To taste better put salt and pepper as you like. Remember when you start filling, the filling should be thick enough to hold its shape.

When you done with filling, start to prepare the Pierogi, to do so; mix the flour with the salt in a deep bowl. Add the egg, oil and water to make medium soft dough. Knead on a floured board until the dough is smooth. Divide the dough into 2 parts and then cover them and let stand for at least 10 minutes. After 10 minutes, roll the dough quite thin on a floured board and next cut rounds with a large biscuit cutter, or the open end of a glass, put the round in the palm of your hand.  Put some of filling in it, fold over to form a half circle and press the edges together with your fingers -the edges should be free of filling-,be sure the edges are sealed well to prevent the filling from coming out. Place the Pierogi on a floured board or towel and then cover with another towel to prevent them from drying out.

To cook it, drop a few Pierogi into a large quantity of rapidly boiling salted water-do not attempt to cook too many at a time- Stir softly with a wooden spoon to separate them and to prevent them from sticking to the bottom of the pan. It’s need about 3-4 minutes for boiling. Pierogies will be ready when they are puffed. Remove them with a perforated spoon. Place in a deep dish, sprinkle generously with melted butter to prevent them from sticking, cover to keep them hot until all are cooked.

Enjoy the Polish Pierogi.

Poland

Back to you with new post about enjoying travel, I am going to talk about Poland; it’s really nice country to visit; everything there is wonderful and the citizens are nice and friendly, the reason that I am writing about Poland today is because it really deserves to be mentioned as it's a country that full of great places everywhere you go and because I have a very nice friend from Poland that gave me impression that they are really wonderful people.

Let’s start with the location, Poland is located in Central Europe, bordered by Germany (from the west), the Czech Republic and Slovakia (from the south), Ukraine, Belarus and Lithuania (from the east), and the Baltic Sea and Kaliningrad Oblast-a Russian exclave (from the north).

The Polish capital Warsaw is filled with outstanding landmarks and monuments, many which have survived an interesting past of battles, wars and the uprising in 1944. Today, many of Warsaw's best landmarks remain very much as they appeared centuries ago, such as the Ratusz (City Hall), and the Grand Theatre, both of them back to the 1830s. The tallest building in Warsaw and throughout Poland is the Palace of Culture and Science, its used to go by the name of the Joseph Stalin Palace of Culture and Science and was completed in 1955 after  three years of major construction work. Standing at just over 230 meters / 755 in height and boasting 42 floors, with more than 3,000 different rooms. Never forget to visit Grand Theater opera house which is a theatre complex and opera company located on historic Theatre Square in Warsaw, Poland.

Reaching the most important part for all of us which is thier traditional food, one of Polish traditional foods is Pierogi - traditionally stuffed with potato filling, sauerkraut, ground meat, cheese, or fruit- it’s kind of appetizer, main or dessert; I’m sure that you would try it so I will provide the recipe for traditional Potato and Cheese Pierogi.

Hope you enjoy it and check my blog soon with more posts.

With love to all polish people.

Dolma

Are you ready for the best Iraqi traditional food recipe?? It is called Dolma.

Dolma, means stuffed grape leaves and squash, is usually served for lunch. It is a very delicious meal that people prepare for guests as a sign of Generosity and hospitality.

It will take you some time to prepare it but trust me it is worth it.

To make Dolma for 2-3 people, you need to do two steps: first, start by preparing the stuffing. For stuffing, you need the following:

1 cup of basmati rice

1 table spoon of tomatoes paste

¾ Lb. of ground beef

5 lobs of chopped garlic

About a table spoon salt

A table spoon of “seven spices” or as you like.

Bring a large bowl, put all the stuffing ingredients and mix well them together. See now you have successfully completed the first step.

Now for the second step, usually we prepare stuffed grape leaves, and squash.  Therefore, you need to peel the squash, cut it in half and then you need to make a hole in to be filled it with stuffing.

Take each grape leaf and put some of the stuffing in the middle, turn the edges and then role it to look like a role or cylinder.

When you’re done stuffing, bring a saucepan and put some olive oil in it. Then, arrange the grape leaves in a row until you make a full layer of them. Repeat the same process with the squash.  You’re almost done!

The last thing you need to do is to put about ¼ cup of lemon juice and about 1 ½ of water in the sauce pan to cover the squash and grapes. Then, boil it for about half hour. After that, you should put the sauce pan under low temperature for about 10 minutes.

Now, you are done. Good Job!

To serve it; you need a tray or a large dish. Take the tray and put it on the sauce pan then flip the saucepan and the tray together upside down.  So your serving plate would look like below.

Enjoy the taste of a delicious food that you have never experienced with your friends and family. Make sure to check out my blog often for more and more easy and delicious recipes.

Lo Stivale (The Boot)

I have always dreamed of visiting the most wonderful country in the world, Italy. Last year that dream has come true when I spent three weeks in Rome, Venice and Milan. I had so much fun so I would love to share my great experience with you. I really urge everybody to visit this beautiful country with ancient history and delicious food.

Italy is one of the most wonderful countries in the world; it has a lot of the historical and great places to visit. It’s the fifth country in the world that welcomes the visitors.

Lo Stivale is one of the famous nicknames for Italy which mean the boot, people used to call it the boot because Italy’s shape look like a boot. As we can look at the map of Italy location, we can see that it’s located in the Southern part of Europe surround by France, Switzerland, Austria and Slovenia from the top and the Mediterranean Sea from other sides.

I spend my first week in the Eternal City, Rome which is one of the beautiful cities in Italy. It’s the capital of Italy and the largest city. Rome is full of history everywhere you look; the best part for me is when I went to see the Vatican (St. Peter’s Basilica) which is the home of the Catholic Church. The area was crowded and everything was nice. You won’t miss the place of luck which is the Trevi Fountain; all you have to do is to throw a coin to bring the luck, I remember in that day I throw more than five coins to bring the luck to me and my beloved people. I will not forget this amazing place, which was one of the world’s wonders; it’s the Colosseum which is Roman world’s biggest amphitheaters. Have you ever try to go up or down 138 Stairs? You can find that kind of an amazing stairs in Italy, it’s called Spanish steps. Rome has a lot of museums and other places to visit that’s I am sure you are going to like as I did.

I won’t forget the city of the sea; Venice is the city that’s built in the middle of lagoon. It’s one of Italy's most beautiful and romantic cities as well as one of the most popular cities for visitors. There are a lot of museums, palaces that you might enjoy to visit and wandering along Venice's canals is just interesting. Don’t forget to ride one of the most beautiful gondolas; the gondolas are the tall thin boats that Italian people used to transfer from place to another, I felt so afraid in the beginning but later it was the best experience in Venice.

Of course, I won’t forget my last stop in Italy, Milan; one of Europe's richest cities, known for stylish shops, galleries, and restaurants. In Milan you can find the world’s most famous opera houses which is La Scala. If you wonder what’s that big amazing building where we can see in the posters, It’s Milan Cathedral; one of the world’s largest churches.

I will never forget how Italian people are really friendly and nice, and their tasty food. I enjoyed tasted all types of Italian food and drinks; everything was great.

Italy trip was the best trip ever in my life where I really saw nice places and tries a lot of new things. If you are looking for a wonderful place to enjoy, I highly recommend Italy for you!!! Hope you enjoyed my blog.
